A Friendly Face from the Past - Figure Stones

figure stones - eoliths
figure stones - eoliths
This figure stone was found in Dorset (world famous Jurassic coast) It adds more details to a familiar face. A really shocking glimpse at a creature that lived millions of years ago. Suggested figurative subject:  Australopithecus Aetheopicus
Portable rock art, figure stones.

Prehistoric Artwork of Ancient Faces - Figure Stone

This was just a chance find but none the less an interesting figure stone and fine prehistoric artwork. Some very interesting face images can be seen with supporting details. Images appear to be of sub human, ape or hybrid forms. One face which only appears very briefly is actually of a well known and documented motif.

Australopithecus Prehistoric Artworks - Figure Stones

The Australopithecus genus was believed to have evolved some 4MYA in Africa. Here are some sculptured flint artworks that may show images of  Australopithecus or other similar ape hybrid forms. This motif characterized by a heavy brow ridge and hump toward the back of the 'head' can be found in many places worldwide including North America. As is the norm, all of these finds are from my site in Southern England and all show other motifs that fit the common lexicon. If the motif does in fact show images of Australopithecus then the assumption that they evolved in Africa some 4MYA is false, and they wondered the Earth at least 65 million years ago?. This motif can be seen in many of my finds and in numerous pictures on this blog.

Both of the above images are of the same flint figure stone, the above still shows a black mark as an 'eye' probably birch tar, both 'eye' features are dotted with the same tar like substances. More 'tar' can be seen to the right of the still image.

This image from the previous post also shows the same motif facing leftward.

Again the same motif can be seen leftward.

The elephant head motif can be seen, the large leached ochre spot representing the eye feature.

This image is of the same stone shown in the previous two images, it is a thin flint blade tool and is shown in a free standing position.

The same motif, but can you see the whole elephant shape and dino head shape?

The above find was recovered from over a meter down in stratified cretaceous chalk layers, again we can see the same motif facing left. Video of the recovery of this find can be seen in this post here.

Two Faced - Figure Stone

This figure stone from my find site has flake removal scars in many places, the most interesting of which is the inverse tetrahedron that makes up the eye feature, also shown in the previous post. Some kind of pigment was also used to enhance the eye.

In the animation below an ape like face (probably sub-human) transforms into an almost lioness facial likeness. Another one eyed transforming face can be seen in this other piece of portable rock art, Face to Face.

Another face can be seen leftwards in the picture below.

From another angle a more gorilla like head profile can be seen along the left edge.

An elephant head profile can be seen with trunk curled under, top left in the picture below. The curled trunk makes up the brow ridge.

Flint Tool - Portable Rock Art shows Apes

This flint tool from my finds site has some ape like faces, two of the faces can be seen at each end of the tool, front on, but only showing one side, something noted on a few finds on this blog. The face on the larger edge looks gorilla like and on the smaller edge sub human. The outside larger edge also shows a face profile on both sides of the blade tool. Many retouch flake removal scars can be seen on this piece of portable rock art, the black material is likely tar or resin.

Prehistoric Animated Robed Figurines

A selection of seven recent flint finds from my site collected from my last two visits.  All can be manipulated in the hand to show an animated cloaked figure likeness, as though walking both right and left. They all share some common characteristics, the four shown in the top row (pictures at end of the post) have a protrusion to one side, this can be used as a lever to rotate each piece in the hand to create the animations.  I've long theorized that many of these artefacts are held between thumb and forefinger and rotated with the middle finger in order to reveal the hidden animations, the side protrusions can be used in exactly this way to rotate the pieces clockwise and anticlockwise in order to create the walking figure effect. Other common features seen here are a double chevron in order to describe the hood of the robe and a downward slant from the top of the hood to the front, the point of the hood becoming an axle on which to rotate. This topology can most likely be found in hand axes and other flint tools.

Although these finds are not the the finest of modified flints from my site the visual impression they can produce is more than adequate to describe a cloaked figure walking both left and right. These are not my only finds that show walking animations. The stone featured in this recent post Standing Cloaked Figure  could also be manipulated in the hand to make the stone describe a figure walking both left and right.
Above a prehistoric robed figure likeness is shown walking rightwards.

The same flint artefact as shown in the previous animation, this time as though walking left.

These next two animations from the same flint find also show a similar cloaked figure likeness, again as though walking both left and right.

Above, this stone also seems to have a subtle walking hominid impression, as though walking right, as well as the cloaked figure animations. Its not as fine as an artwork as this gorilla animation from omniglyths, which I also suspect could be manipulated in order to produce a walking like effect. Another more skilfully animated gorilla impression can be seen in the old post Prehistoric Optical Illusions.

Above and below, two more walking robed figure animations from the same worked flint find.

Above and below, stills of the seven recent finds, look for the double chevrons on the hood features, this is one of the keys in creating the impression.

More Dinosaur Rock Art?

When I discovered dinosaur artistic impressions in my flints back in 2011 I was a little shocked and disbelieving, other portable rock art proponents laughed at me, one even claiming I had nothing of archaeological interest! (that person has since copied most of my findings, and refuses me any credit.)
Since those early days I have come to learn that many Americans shared my beliefs, many making there own dinosaur portable rock art discoveries before me.

Above:  A typical elephant and front leg impression can be seen.

Above: two ape like profiles can be seen, top one facing left and the bottom one right.

Above: A bear face profile facing left?

Above:  Another bear face profile likeness faces right.

Above: A dinosaur head profile faces right? rotate the stone 180 degrees and a very similar impression faces left.

Above: an animation of the stone shown in the above stills.

Above: Another stone find from my site showing a double sided T-Rex head impression likeness. Crystal 'teeth' feature in two places on this stone, one patch right at the front and another patch on one side.

The Theory of Revolution?

This flint blade tool has much glyph content and some anamorphic art. Study all three animations carefully. Things that should not be missed are: the randy tortoise and two feeding fish.

More Optical illusions

All images from the same stone as the previous post, yes the stone has more too!, here we see a gorilla walking to the left.
.
Very complex and vague imagery can be seen here, a good front half of a bear is traveling right, another elephant half can be seen facing right as well, i suspect a bison and maybe another lion, i cant seem to bend my mind enough to see them yet. Another elephant head can be seen looking left with trunk curled upwards.

Same gorilla head different body pose, and the head of a feline? looking right.

There is a lot to see and take in here, so i have included some stills to make viewing more easy.
(above) The front of an elephant looking right., A possible bison shares the same eye as the elephant.

(above) a human face profile looks skywards a hominid face looks right.
